This lovely oak settle was in relatively good condition despite having
been exposed to the elements for many years.
Two panels in the back had split in places,
these required removal in order to repair them. In dismantling we
carefully removed the original timber pegs, re-using them in the
re construction.
The original finish was almost non-existent,
though we know historically that a burnished wax finish would have
been applied. Before apply the wax, we fumed the oak in an ammonia
tent to bring back the colour of the oak.
