Mahogany Secretaire BookcaseMahogany Secretaire Bookcase with glazed doors, late 18th century. This lovely glazed bookcase with secretaire, had superficial damage to its veneer, string inlay, cock-beading, glazing bars, and the top of the secretaire had a large split along it. Structurally the bookcase was in good condition. The missing sections of stringing, cock-beading, glazing bars and the top of the secretaire were re-created from new sections of timber which were then coloured to match surrounding areas. The split along the top of the secretaire was filled with a hard burnishing wax. Loose veneers were consolidated & losses compensated with patches. The finish was cleaned and the bookcase waxed to a soft sheen. |
