Bowfront Mahogany Chest of Drawers

Bow Fronted, Matched Mahogany Veneer, Low Chest, circa 1780.

Of lovely proportions, this four drawer chest is in original condition. The drawers have been veneered with matching sheets of veneer to the fronts on an oak base. The rest of the drawers are constructed from redwood and red pine.

The drawers and drawer bearers were heavily worn and required rebuilding to ensure their future use. Losses of veneer and stringing had occurred in numerous places and were patched using similar veneers, which were then coloured and polished to match the original surfaces.
